Joan has been involved in Irish Dance most of her life, starting out as a child with the Peggy Smith School of Irish Dancing and as a teenager with the Peter Smith School of Irish Dancing. She was associated with the Patricia Murphy School of Irish Dance since her daughters Siobhan and Sheelagh started lessons in 1986, and remained with the Murphy School until it transitioned into the D’Arcy School in 2016. Joan has served as Chairperson of the Patricia Murphy School/Jersey Shore Feis since its inception in 1993. She was also a member of the eight hand Adult Ceili Team that took first place in the Nationals in 1992.
Joan has coordinated the United Irish Institute Annual Easter Sunday March and Mass in Newark since 1968. She is a Registered Nurse with a Master’s Degree in Administration.
